The U.S. Trade Dollar
This silver one dollar coin was issued during the years 1873 to 1885 by the United States for exclusively for trade conducted in the Orient with China, Japan, and Korea. The bulk of these Trade Dollar coins were minted at San Francisco and Carson City, as these mints had easier access to Asia during this time period. Many dollars were also minted in Philadelphia including all proofs. The mint mark is located on the reverse side of the coin above the letter D in the word Dollar.
