The U.S. Mercury Dime
The Mercury dime ten cent coin was designed for the United States Mint by Adolph A. Weinman who also designed the Walking Liberty half dollar coin.  The coins obverse portrays a depiction of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap with two wings that represent freedom of thought. The depiction closely resembled a likeness to the Roman messenger of the gods, Mercury and  the general public began referring to the coin as the Mercury dime. Key dates in the Mercury dime mintages are the 1916-D, 1921, 1921-D, and the 1942/1 with the Philadelphia or Denver mint marks.
