The U.S. Draped Bust Dime
The Draped Bust dime was the first ten cent coin placed in circulation in 1796. These dimes were minted from 1796 to 1807 and contained a metal content of 89.24 percent silver and 10.76 percent copper. The coins design was furnished by Chief Engraver Robert Scot, the coins obverse depicts a draped bust portrait of Liberty and the coins reverse features small Bald Eagle surrounded by palm and olive branches, and perched on a cloud.
The Capped Bust Dime 1809-1837This replacement for the Draped Bust Dime designed by John Reich featured a new design and the coin received a whole new look. The coins obverse portrays a depiction of Liberty wearing a cap. The bald eagle is on the reverse side of the coin holding three arrows for strength and an olive branch for peace.
